Vomit changes everything

I never noticed the medicine I routinely give 8 had a distinctive smell. Nothing pungent or particularly offensive it just never registered with me.
Poor little 8 was sick this week and coughed so much he threw-up. I got over the sympathy puke years ago with 7. Of course the vomit smell registered, I may be immune or have a callous but I'm not dead.
The next day I'm giving 8 the medicine that will make him all better and notice the smell. At first I thought it was the rug and that it needed to be cleaned again/thrown out. Then I realized the smell was closer; as if I was holding it in my hand. I now know what it smells like from the bottle and from the digestive system. Remarkably they are not very different smells. As a matter of fact the only difference is now when I smell the medicine I think of vomit.
